Re: Engine rebuild problem
Are the new and old gaskets exactly the same Chris - no extra cut outs or bigger cut outs on the new ones?

Re: 1.5 8v cam timing
Timing guns….. so fragile they seem to stop working when faced with practically anything. My gunson one of over 30 years fried last weekend - I took very good care of it but I think the pick up got too hot down in the engine bay on no.1 lead. I got a cheap red acuspark one off Amazon ( s800 I think)...

VIN plate orientation
Morning all, finally getting around to refitting my VIN plate in the engine bay of my late (1988) Sprint (even Alfa rivets seem to corrode 🤣). Can’t remember which way it faced - presume this way around (with the numbers & letters facing to the outside of the car) and not the other way round (fa...

Vacuum Advance Hose
Evening, Anyone know if this small cylinder located within the vacuum advance hose (between carb and Bosch dizzy) has to be a certain way around? One end of it is slightly domed and one end is kind of kamm-tailed. I think it is something that smooths out the vacuum pulses to the dizzy. Or does it no...

Re: Gear box oil recommendations
Hi Dave,
Did your Smith & Allan 75W/90 fully synth GL 4/5 work ok? Any issues, any leaks?
Just planning my gearbox oil change.
Cheers,
Ed

Cheers John.
I’m being too picky then if your spare ones are much worse than mine.
Right, a quick scrub up and in it goes then.

Gearbox foam support
Evening all, Just about to put the engine & box back in my 88 Sprint, and just looking at the oil stained and beaten up piece of foam that sits between the top of the transmission tunnel and the top of the gear change linkage (see attached). I’m presuming there are no replacements out there and ...

Re: Gearbox tail mount
Thanks Gary, I’ll follow that advice. Seems odd though to design it that way, where the thin ridge is on the wearing side (as you can see from the wear on my old one - left rubber in pic), when installing it the other way around would have a much thicker solid section on the wearing side and therefo...

Re: Gearbox tail mount
Thanks Dave, yeah I was thinking of going for the larger diameter bar from sudshop but then I thought might as well use the new rubber mount I’ve got.
I guess if nobody thinks they have to be a certain way up, I guess I’ll just fit the new one with the ridge underneath and see how it goes.

Gearbox tail mount
Evening all, Doing quite a bit of refurb whilst I’ve got the engine & box out. A couple of years ago I picked up a NOS gearbox tail bush - the big round one at the end. So I’ve got the old one out ok and about to put the new one in and see that it is not just a straight hole - seems to be a ridg...

Agree with Lauren. I was struggling with the same issue - Sudshop seem to have one for single carb and one for twin carb models. The twin carb one fitted perfectly for my twin carb engine.

Re: Clutch slave cylinder thread size
Cheers Gary. No, not changing the hose/pipe, just want to blank it off when disconnecting from the slave cylinder, as want to drop the engine and been fighting with that £@&$#’ing circlip on the back of it and thinking, just disconnect and bleed again on reconnection. Usual fun and games

Re: Clutch slave cylinder thread size
Ok, I’ve actually found a blanking plug on eBay that is m12 x 1mm pitch, so I guess they exist after all.

Clutch slave cylinder thread size
Evening all, anyone know the thread size of the fitting that screws into the top of the clutch slave cylinder (the hose coming from the clutch master cylinder). It seems to be 12mm diameter with a pitch of 1mm. In imperial it’s 26 TPI but I’m assuming it’s metric, so 1mm pitch. Thing is M12 fine thr...

Engine rotation direction
Guys,
Having brain freeze at the moment…..
The boxer engine normal direction of rotation is the usual clockwise looking from the radiator side and counter-clockwise looking from the flywheel side, right?
Cheers.
