A so have a few longer journeys planned for my ‘sud this year, and as I hadn’t changed the belts since buying it 4.5 years ago I thought I would change the timing belts.
It went ok, waterpump was rather reluctant to come out, but we got there…
Anyway, I was a little lazy when doing it, I didn’t want to remove the cam covers for fear of introducing a leak which wasn’t already there. I put a small mark on the cam pulley instead.
The left side I was happy with, the right I wasn’t confident so removed the cover anyway and double checked the marks.
Put it together, have been for a little test run and it seems a touch lumpier than I remembered. Have taken the covers off and these are the marks.
Flywheel bang on the T, right side perfectly on the mark, the left side looks a bit off, but I’m not sure it can be a whole tooth out?? In my head a tooth out would be a bigger gap than that, it’s kind of in a no-man’s land.
How does it look to those with more experience? It’s a lot more awkward to check and adjust now it’s all back together!
