Re: Sprint rear side window

Do you know you can lower the rear windows about 50mm/2 inch? By turning a knob but most of the time the mechanism is stuck and rusted. You will need to remove the rear trim on the inside to inspect and you will see how to install/uninstall the glass.

Re: I can't track down Sud valve shims

The Fiat ones are larger, same as Ferrari 308 (not 305..) and...Yugo.
I will check tomorrow what sizes I have. In the first post it said one 2.70, that must be a tipo then, 3.70 is a normal value.

Re: I can't track down Sud valve shims

I have them, 3 euro for a new one, 2 for a good used one but I would need to check if I still have the sizes you need. It seems 2.70 is not available, this is an original Alfa box. Maybe from other brands or maybe there is something wrong with the valve/valve seat?

The Ti front is also shorter, as it has a seperate spoiler, not integrated. Some basic 1.2 nuova Suds had short bumpers front and back but they are rare, never seen any.

Re: Late Sprint rear springs

I don't have the answer but you can never compare springs for a '83 with Sud axle to a '88 with 33 axle. The lower spring seat is about 25mm higher relative to the wheel center on a 33 axle, that means with same springs a '88 would sit 25mm higher in the rear than a '83.

Re: speedo drives

Sud and 33 output shafts and flanges are different (obviously the 33 flange has no mount for a brake disc but is also 12mm longer). The Sud has a helical gear pattern to drive the speedo cable, the 33 has a toothed wheel for the electronic pick up. Secured with a clamped on nut, not a nut actually b...

Re: Alfa rebore

1.5 and 1.7 blocks are not the same castings, both have 5.5-6mm thick cylinder walls and if you bore a 1.5 block to 87mm only 4mm is left. This could be ok for a road car but I read about a racer that had cracked walls after one season.

I also plan building 89mm bore engine(s) and have at my own cost and risk ordered a custom made batch of 20x 89.5mm bore headgaskets in the hope I could sell the gaskets I don't need myself. They are made with the same material (metal enforced) and thickness, only the bore is larger. And they left o...

Re: Rear Alfasud brake disc, nothing available

Difference between pre and post 1982 discs is only the height of the centering ring, also the centering ring is machined a little different requiring different caps but both discs should be fine on all Suds unless you have a really weird wheel. It is nice that Brembo put photos of the actual discs w...

Re: 33 Strut and Sud Insert

I think it's a tight fit, I once had to use a reamer to fit Sud Koni yellow in a 33 strut. The 33 strut is 40mm exact, the Sud a few tenth more. But it is a while ago and I could be mistaken.

Re: Alfasud / 33 suspension conversions.

S3 33 has 2480mm wheelbase, Suds 2455mm, I think all due to the front suspension. Not sure, but I thought the S1 33 still has 2455. I also think less castor is better for a racer, more sensitive steering.

Re: Alfasud / 33 suspension conversions.

Sud has longer longitudinal arms. I found when I mounted a complete series 3 33 suspension, the wheels sat too far forward in the arches, about 2 cm so I had to use the Sud arms and still have Sud castor, which indeed seems to should be around zero while the 33 has 2 degrees. That is why a Sud steer...

Re: The Sud on Wheeler Dealers

In the for sale add in the beginning it is readable that belts and waterpump had been done recently, yet they replace them again. On other cars with unknown history they leave them on sometimes! I guess the Sud was too good and needed nothing so they had to do something to make a show.
