Ah ha !
I see now. I thought it strange talking about the P5 then showing a custom paint job. It looks like a chrome effect.
Full picture of the car please when finished. :D

people used to rave about the quality of rovers back in the day when that was fresh, not a patch on the stuff they spewed out when Austin got involved. they are lovely old buses, have an air of superiority about them, well amongst the British stuff anyway

yes, remember the thick carpets and quality feel of the switchgear.
when I worked at the VW place a couple of years back we got quite a few different classics through the doors, often just for an MoT which I jumped at doing. we did though have a lovely P5 for sale which was just lovely to drive, well it was amongst what I was used to driving there!

Super-sophisticated cars in their day, absolutely love 'em. Not much prod with the old 3 litre six, but the addition of the Buick 215 (aka Rover 3.5) was a master stroke. Lighter and more powerful than the engine it replaced. Torsion bar front suspension too, for proper rising rate - shame it had cart springs in the back, but the P6 was just around the corner, waiting to send Rover into the space age...

I think the P5B came with a fitted tool kit under the dash - if one is going to break down, one may as well do it in style

talking of tool kits Lauren, we had a Merc in today and whilst trying to find the locking wheel nut we came across a first aid kit, a Merc one. In there was 3 shaving razors! Just how long do they expect you to be broken down we said!!

You can't perform brain surgery without shaving the hair off you know!

Still, 3 razors seems a bit over the top - brain, open heart and limb amputations rarely all occur at once

I can well believe it. Probably rock-solid at that speed too. The P5B was supposedly good for 110 in its day.

Rather him than me . Steering was a bit vague when drove it into the garage . But fair play to the owner :D

Talking of Rovers, my father had a Rover 2000 (P6?) which I learnt to drive in. It was a very smooth ride and the doors closed with a very solid "Thunk". I always wanted him to get a 3500S but he never did. However I satisfied my RV8 urge later on..... :D

Did a final bit of polishing and cleaning before this goes to be reunited with its running gear.
This has been a long job at work, and very involved.
Take a mechanically good but tatty old car, then have what looks like a "small" off into a ditch. It was actually driven to our workshop by the owner. Then as it starts to be stripped you realise it was worse than you first thought.
Lots of structural repairs needed first, then panel work , and finally body prep and paint, flat and polish. Mask out and black chassis and compartments .

I have done four now. Two gt's and two gts's.
I do think they are pretty cars but are a bit tricky to paint, especially around that back window.
If you do paint one, don't be responsible for removing and re-fitting that window

The blue one was another tatty car that was really rotten and the body was remade for the owner in aluminium rather than steel. :o
