got some rust issues to sort...

rob & me took the front bumper off today for a look at the front cross-member which we knew had soem corrosion

we had to put some plastic sacks down to collect the flakes!

think i'm gonna have to find a new part

I'm assuming the HF structure is the same as the 1.6 turbo ones , yes ?

i've had a reply from a guy over here who makes the panels, just waiting on a price......

a new panel is obviously preferable to a used one but there are limits if it costs a fortune!

You've got your work cut out but then you knew that anyway, and they are pretty localised, not too difficult once you get going.

looks like you have your work cut out there! Makes the Fulvia look a doddle! Seems about par for the course for a Lancia, my Delta looked great when I got it but needed a good be of welding and paintwork at the time, but my Beta was just too far gone so went for scrap after about 8 months of ownership. No doubt it'll be better than when it left the factory after you have finished

I said I would speak to my brilliant auto electrician and he remembered the following in order of priority .

1) The wiring to the headlights was terrible and failed frequently.

2) The earth's around the engine bay were another source of much trouble.

3) The copper was of poor quality which did not bend easily, plus attaching to poor steel created some of these issues.

4) The dash material broke up on some of them and caused problems to the wiring in the dash.

5) The racing ones he just used to rewire! Which I did not know about so a good topic for over a cuppa tea next time I am near his house.

Fulvia's were better electrically and good luck were his final words.

had a ride over to west brom in brum this morning to get a few bits for the car

i'd searched everywhere i could think of this week to try and find a new front cross member but it seems they are just not to be found anywhere, even walkers who have probably the biggest stock of integrale parts say they haven't been available for years so a used one was the only option save for a very expensive commision on a new one being hand made. didn't fancy trying it myself....

as with most delta's this age they have rot in the corners where the road crud gathers at the tie rod mounts. most people i asked didn't have a useable cross member, or were unwilling to chop one out of a usefull shell, understanably really.

the fella in brum though breaks a few and had one that has a mostly solid cross-member but needs a little reapiring around the usual area. said i'd best coem have a look before he chops it out to see what i reckonned.

so i had a look, decided it was the only option and we chopped it all out.

top fella agreed to also leave the inner wings and chassis rails on so i can join it further up where i need to, along with the rest of the front panel should i need to

it's much more solid than it appears, although will need some mending.

another integrale shell which is due to be crushed very soon gave up another very usefull panel to me, the n/s/r wheel arch and sill portion. he kindly cut it all out well inside the car so i can pick the panel back and then spot weld it along the door seal as per original rather than joining it along the length.
the addition of a bit of sill/step is also great as mine has rot there.

also picked up a very good drivers wing too whilst there. mine has some rot and a previous repair that may well reveal some further work so had it whilst i could

he also had an HF turbo there with a very good top scuttle panel that has no rot at both corners.
when asked could i have the corners from it he asked me has mine been converted to RHD wiper set-up.....soemthing i'd not thought of. the wipers on my car park on the right so drivers vision in rain wouldn't be the best.
swapping the whole panel over then fitting a RHD wiper linkage set makes perfect sense
especially as mine needs both corners repairing along with the wiper spindle holes

so we chopped the whole lot out!

amazingly the underside is in tip top condition, no rot around any wiper spindle or anywhere really.
i may pick off the spot welds and just fi the top portion but i've now got the option of fitting the good underside panel if it's needed too, once it's all out i can assess the situation.

all in a good haul of parts that should see the project move along one i get started.......
still, these integrale parts don't come cheap.

also got a couple of little trim bits from him and after i'd factored in my fuel i just about had change for a chinese tonight out of £500

mind you, i'd been quoted £500+ just to make a cross-member so a result nontheless

Yeah adds up, but will make this rebuild a lot easier now and the wiper conversion is a bonus too

All in all Kev, I think you have done very well.
Like a Sud, you are very very lucky to get such a good screen surround and front end. Good the guy cut it generously as well.

hens teeth are good screen surrounds, just like the suds.
this one had been waxoyled very well when it must have been new, properly done into the corners not just flashed over, that's whats preserved it.

fella was very good with cutting how much i wanted out, will make it a lot easier when it comes to fitting up.

overall i'm pleased with the days haul really, that's most of the rot taken care of now apart from the strut tops and boot floor which should be repairable without buying any more parts

something had been bugging me with the rear end view of the car, looked to be something not as good as it should.

figured it out now, the black strip that runs along the bottom of the hatch just darkens things down too much and makes it look like the underseal brush has been out.
checking other integrales' of this age it seems it's the correct look.
but i don't like it.
and i'm not going to be a stickler for factory spec on this car, so it'll be painted body colour, same as the later evo cars seem to be...
although i will leave the black infill in the bumper
