Sprint green cloverleaf 1.5 poor running at idle

Post by Pedrokat36 »

Hi All, any one got experience of setting up twin Weber 36 idf carbs?
My car has just gone back together following a couple of years of mechanical and bulkhead restoration work, its running but seems lumpy between 1000 rpm and 2000rpm
It clears up after that, I did dismantle to a degree the carbs to clean them but I did not move any of the adjustment screws as it was running nicely.
So I am wondering if anyone can point me in the direction of the specific jet that fuels cylinder 1, I think that's the one that is misfiring!
Regards
Peter

Chances are you disturbed some crud when you were working on the carbs. Suggest you remove and blow through each of the idle jets.

That would be my first check.

Yes.... I have had what I believe to be the main and idle jets out on Friday night.... and fiddled with the beaks for the acceleration pump, actually yesterday it was running better.... may run it for a few days to see what it does.... possibly engine needs a run under load... it is happy to start, hot and cold, bit lumpy when cold but then it always was this time of year and only for a moment straight after starting..
Unfortunately I have both the fuel tank and back axle out for restoration at the moment so can only run it in neutral!
Cheers

Hi. Yeah, it only takes the tiniest amount of dirt in an idle jet to upset the running. Remember the idle jets are in operation for quite a lot of the carburettor operation up into the start of acceleration.

With the air filter box off, I’d also visually check that the butterflies are set the same at rest across the carbs and that they open at the same time when the throttle cable is activated. If one carb opens slightly before the other you get this sort of ‘jerky’ rev progression as you start to open the throttle.

Lastly, if you think it’s cylinder 1 that is misbehaving, switch the HT lead with another and see if the problem moves to the other cylinder, just to rule out an HT lead issue.

Hope this helps.
