I wonder why there's no posts here singing the praises of Chris Knott
I will try them again but don't really feel "special" when they don't ask you for membership details

Maybe CAF have joined forces with a "quality" company that let all members 2 track days per year AND agreed value for cars not actually stored in owners garages where they live!
Maybe a small market

Its pretty tricky to sing the praises of any insurance company i find H


if they're great for premium, they can also be disastorous at claim time, so until you've had to be with someone for the whole process, its a very hard recommendation to make.



If someone can evidence that they had a very very competitive quote, but then had to claim and received every penny they deserved, without a monthly cage fight through the mailbox and a £300 phone bill to boot, MAYBE then i could see my way to recommending one.


As it stands, i could not name any one single insurance company that delivers an all round excellent service and value for money, in fact they are generally quite the opposite.

But i'm all ears, and maybe now is a good time for member to tell their tales of both joy and woe regarding their insurance experiences?

You have to consider that it's not generally the broker that you deal with at claim time, it's the under writer / insurer.

Chris knott are the broker.

I used them for years and they were mostly competitive, I stayed because they were easy to deal with and efficient, I even used them for house insurance and they were super efficient in helping with some subsidence nonesense. However my last renewal for the Beemer they were miles away so I went with the cheapest quote I could get (remember this latter point, it's important...)

When I did need to claim (took out a major road sign on a roundabout mid 180 degree spin...oops), I was passed direct to the under writer, Zurich, who were also top notch. Within 1 hour a low loader turned up, picked up my car, dropped of loan car at the same time and mine went off for repair at their chosen repair shop (I could have used my own choice, but I would have had to arrange to get it there etc....couldn't be bothered with that).

Car was assessed, 5k of repairs approved, and got it back 4 weeks later looking good as new. Other than ego, I wasnt injured.

Now, back to cheapest quote for the Beemer.........

Chris knott - £900 with Equity Red Star (I use my car for business miles, lots of them hence rip off quote).

Adrian Flux - £500 with........yep you guessed it, Equity Red Star

Hopefully I won't have a need to claim again, but if I do, the broker is largely irrelevant.

My wife is direct with Aviva, so no broker as such involved, competitive for her old 147.

I have recommended Adrian Flux to many folk previously as they are mega competitive for japanese imports, specials, modified etc.

Very good for premiums, no experience of them in a claim.


Its a minefield really, and always a gamble.

I'm with Chris Knott at the mo, moved from Adrain flux. I always play them off against each other. Chris won this year never had a claim with either tho.

Hi all, this is a odd thread really as everyone has such different personal details and that is before they spin the randomiser.... Anyway, I have had exemplary support from Chris Knott and have been with them for 17 years! During that time I wrote off a new GTV (not my fault, dragged on for ever but Chris Knott got my excess back after 3 years of me having to do NOTHING ) and a Lotus (less said about that the better, sometimes you just have to put your hands up! ) in both cases they were very helpful and sorted everything, quickly and fairly.
Currently, I have the Sud (with FULL business use, ) and my Land Rover (3000 ltd mileage) fully comp for less than £300, yes, that is for BOTH.
I have also benefitted from the £20 off every time I recommend someone, please mention me by name!!! Got £40 off this year!
My mate got his WW2 jeep done through them also.

HOWEVER..... They were not even close with my Ducato camper van!!! and anything my dad tries a quote for is through the roof..... weird old market place!

so, Im happy with them!!

I think that's all you can do and hope you come out with a premium you're willing (not the same as happy) to pay, and the service you receive is in the lap of the gods!

I was with Peter Best insurance for 8yrs till last year when the company i was with "ecclesiastical" stopped doing classic car insurance. The cost was very competetive and where really good for agreed value and break down cover. Must have been a small office as every time i called to change anything i always got the same lady who was always very helpfull and new my account.

I looked at other insurers and finally decided on Adrian Flux. Got to say they'r very competitive price wise but don't include breakdown cover and not a very good agreed evaluation.

Does anyone know of any insurers that do a good agreed valuation and breakdown cover for under £200??

I'm insured with Chris Knott for the 147 & the Sud.
147 was a few quid more than the cheapest quote but it did get me a £20 discount on the classic Insurance for the Sud, which is about £79 for the year I think inc agreed value.

Thanks kev think ill give chris notts and adrian flux a call see who can do the best deal, it might pay to just get some break down cover for myself with the AA or RAC.

Thing i found with adrian flux "flux direct" is i paid extra for the agreed valuation and sent in the required photos of my S2 only to be told 4k was as high as they would go without a specialist valuation. Its a bit low nowadays isn't it? Maybe things will change this year with the higher prices being advertised on ebay and the like!!

I'd like to get them all on one policy but iv never come across any insurers who would do it, say have a 5,6 or 7k total milage for the cars combined..

Just got my renewal from CK for the Sud and it's only gone up £2 in the last 3 years so can't complain really.
