Rough running

Post by markalfa83 »

Hopefully someone can give me some pointers on this.

Every now and again my Sprint seems to run rough. You can be cruising at a steady speed and all of a sudden you can start to feel it stutter and when stood idling you can really feel the car shake and when pulling away to seems to struggle a bit. It just seems to feel like it keeps dropping a cylinder now and again.

Here is a video that I took this afternoon of it while running rough.

Thanks in advance

Difficult to tell from the vid, but I'd start the same place as I suggested to Neg, check and clean the idle jets. If one or both are starting to block up then it runs rough under 3k ish rpm but fine on full bore.

Idle jets, take out adjuster screws, blow through with compressed air.

Thanks for the advise lads. I've had the carbs off and stripped down and given the ports a good shot of brake cleaner with some air. Just been for a run and at the present all seems ok. I will take off the fuel tank though just to check inside as there was a few tiny rusty bits collecting in the fuel filter :?

Hi MarkAlfa83,
Hope the guys have cracked it for you.
My experience has been that it is essential to have an inline fuel filter to prevent the carb jets getting blocked from muck coming from the fuel tank.
Hope this is helpful.
