Tax Disc Holder.

Post by Sud 145 »

Just an idea folks - now we all own an empty holder would this be an ideal time to fill it with a round Classic Alfa Forum Logo of some description? If this seems a good idea maybe some of you arty types could come up with a few designs? I'll leave it with you, obviously costs etc would have to be considered but if it turns out to be a goer a group buy would be in order.

That's a good idea. Also what about a sticker for the rear window?

Perhaps the web-master would be the man for some designs?

Just used the no doubt millions of pounds worth of DVLA website to tax my 52 Landrover, I applied for my tax disc that costs nothing and now don't get, after not having to verify the MOT that I now don't need.
Have I timeslipped into some Orwellian alternate universe of madness without realising? Oh look! Ive just received a confirmation email regarding the none result of the nothing I submitted!!

At least a nice colourful pic of a Sud in my windscreen makes sense!

good idea about the tax disc holder guys, an emblem of some sort to replace the expensive bit of paper! anyone else finding it odd to see cars without a tax disc and not feel like you have a legitimate complaint to be made about tax dodgers!!

shrew and myself have actually discussed getting some merchandise produced before but both of us always seem to be so busy....must try harder. i promise to put it higher up the agenda, even if it's just car window stickers..

i did get a beanie hat produced with a view to doing more but wasn't overly happy with the end rseult. will look again if there's any interest, will get one made once we finalise a logo.

great suggestion though, keep 'em coming ;)

Good Idea for the Classic Alfa Forum sticker, I wish I was "arty".
It will be a show of support..... especially at AROC meets.
I have a reproduction tax disc, as I need something in the old girls original holder :D

How does the reproduction tax disc work, can you have one made that shows the expiry date? I don't know how I'll remember when my cars run out of tax!

Repro' tax discs can be made any way you want. Mines going to have her date of birth and stamped the date of 1st registration.

You beat me to a reply !!
Mine has the month of registration as the fake "expiry date" and the guy who made it for me even had a reproduction post office stamp for Grimsby, where the car was bought new. He even dated it the exact date of registration. Sad I know but it then shows all relevant details of the cars age.
I know what you mean about not knowing when it expires, I wonder if DVLA really thought about this. As we know, not all classics are tax exempt, so are not "taxed " for 12 months. We need to keep a record of when it was SORN'd.

even when a classic is tax exempt it still needs to get a tax disc with dvla/post office, just means it's free of cost. they still needed to display one.
guess now they will have to go through the same process but not end up with the disc at the end :D

That's the guy, he was really helpful.
I knew the original owner was from Grimsby, and he stamped it with a Grimsby rubber stamp, dated 16th May '75.
I know it is not technically correct, but the disc, at a glance, reads MAY 75. His name is Gregg and he supplies 3 discs.
I recently saw a new one on ebay, but that doesn't look right. They print things like "restored such and such a date, body all original etc..." Personally I just wanted it to look as if the car had come out of a time warp garage, and that is exactly what my disc does.
I would recommend him.

Might just be me, but does anyone else think a Classic Alfa Forum sticker should be a skull with a cloverleaf (or Serpent) in the middle of its spam? ;)

Donno about you guys, but theres a new law in town, where its forbidden to have anything stuck to your windshield for better viewing purposes...

Apparently they havent met me, who struggles to see above the dashboard in the first place.
That been the case, they'd probably forbid the use of dashboards as well :o
