Brake regulator/compensator
Brake regulator/compensator
Can anyone advise where to get ones paws on a brake compensator/regulator? Part number is 60501737, and it's the 4 pipe version. Dealers still list it as available from Italy but I'm a skinflint and won't pay £130 plus VAT. Alfa Service have them too but again £100 plus.
Any suggestions as to where to get one or where I can get the current one refurbished? Really need to start getting stuck into this now.
Cheers peeps
Oh And does anyone have a diagram showing which pipe connects to where? i.e. where the ins and outs are?

Ebay Italy is where I got one from, they usually go for around £100 equivalent + shipping, your unlikely to get one for less but you may get luckyStescoG66 wrote:Can anyone advise where to get ones paws on a brake compensator/regulator? Got the last one at AlfaShop new and boxed. Boxed as a TRW part but was a Bosch in the box.
Does anyone have a 'plumbing' diagram as the Haynes manual is pretty unclear as to what side goes where. I suspect the ins/outs using the bigger 12mm fitting go to the one side of the car but can anyone confirm?

Looking in the bendix book the Sprint and 33 ones have 4 fittings and are a different part number to inboard braked suds with only 2 fittings

Re: Brake regulator/compensator
aye, thats the wee little fella.
i'll have a looks see if i've got one spare, BUT, used ones are usually all in the same condition, i.e. seized!
you might be aswell to see if yu can split the one you have a repair with a seals kit or similar?
failing that, do as i do,
throw it away!
its only there to add more braking effort to the rear calipers when a weight load is applied to the trunk area, squatting the suspension, and therefore depressing the plunger inside the cylinder.
as Suds really don't benefit from any extra rear brake bias, i don't really see it as a vital or even safe piece of equipment at all, personally, but that said, if you have a car in original trim and spec, you'd likely want to keep it from that point of view.

That's the very fella

EDIT:- looking closer at the pic it would seem that the top 2 are the outs to the rear brake, where the bottom 2 are the ins from the engine compartment. only need to now which side these each go to. both to the rear brakes and the connection points on the bulkhead.

Hi Steven. Yes, the bottom two pipes go to the front. The top left pipe goes to the right rear and the top right pipe goes to the left rear.StescoG66 wrote: That's the very fella. Big favour - could you please let me know what one goes where? I suspect the in/out using the bigger nut head will go to the one side of the car. As I say the Haynes manual is very unclear as to this. Also which side is the in, and which is the out. Should have photographed this prior to dismantling shouldn't I............

I can't remember exactly how the front pipes go so I will check at the weekend for you if it will help you.

I suspect then that bottom left will go to left hand side on the bulkhead (as you face it ie side nearest drivers side) although I also suspect that this matters less that the output side

I have also drawn a red line on one pipe to help keep it separate from the other. The only thing is, I can't see exactly where which pipe goes where on the compensator as they both proceed above the fuel tank.

Re: Brake regulator/compensator
Mark - you are a legend. Thank you. Huge help. I suspect the front will be less important than the rear arrangement.

No problem at all. If you want any pics of the rear piping just let me know

Thread resurrection. Mark - can you remember where you got these brake/fuel line clips at all?

Re: Brake regulator/compensator
Hi Steven. I actually got these out of a scrap box at work so I can't even give you a part number for these unfortunately.
Re: Brake regulator/compensator
Hi Mark. How goes it? I ended up taking a punt on these as it was proving to be a hard part to find.

Re: Brake regulator/compensator
Hi folks, another resurrection of this thread. I'm nearly at the end of a full resto on a s3 33 and am redoing the brakelines.
My pre strip pictures are missing detail on which of the front lines go into which input port on the regulator. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Brake regulator/compensator
Just noticed this tonight. I can't quite recall,, however I do remember 2 of the connections on the brake compensator valve are slightly larger - these denote one in and out side if memory serves but I just can't remember which - they are diagonally across from one another as you look at the vavle. I suspect these are for the offside but please don't take that as gospel. may be a while before I can get back to it but I will check which is which as soon as I canFluffyduff wrote:Hi folks, another resurrection of this thread.
