Re: found & bought - another Alfasud Ti series 1!!
They overdid it with the foam, at least we know it has it......

I need to contact alfa records in Italy to find out a bit more I think, original colour etc., the build date looks like 11/1977, has anyone done this recently? if so can you let me know who to contact, thanks
Car has a SII bonnet on it and wrong 'c' pillar emblems and a few other things which means to me it has had previous renovation work done so could have been another colour originally

looks in amazing condition mate, really great to see a car so original

what's the tank in the boot for in the 1st pic? has some green pipes going to it...
already studied the under bonnet pics which have helped me no end for location of relays etc

i contacted italy very recently about my sud, got a quick reply so should still work

The car looks very solid and definitely worth the investment shipping it over .

Not sure exactly where those pipes are going tbh, I will be going back to the barn in a week or so to cover it over once I know its all 100% dried after I washed all the salt spray off it, so I will have a look & take some more pictures and post them up so you have some more for reference

Lovely car, same colour as mine, that looks like the original colour too, Blu Posillipo. It has the correct red primer underneath the blue paint seen in some of the pictures.
The wheels aren't the same as the ones on the Tis we got, they look like the steel wheels from the saloon version.
Those green pipes look like some sort of fuel tank breather arrangement to me.
Gear stick knob is from a series three sud.
The way the heater hose attaches to the manifold looks different to my series 1 ti with twin choke carb, is this car on a single choke carb?
It seems to have later cam covers, the earlier cars had black pressed tin ones, no Alfa logo.
Looks like it has a chunky later wheel, but it has an early centre boss.
It looks to have a great body.
I wonder which of the other differences are due to it's build origin and which to upgrades fitted by various owners over the years?
What year is it?
Anyway, well done for getting such a great car.

Yes mate I think its in its original colour as well but want to check with alfa to be sure, pretty sure the road wheel are not original ones as i'm pretty sure Australian market Ti's had the same steel type wheel that ours had. It has a later 1500 single carb engine in it currently, there are 3 other steering wheels in the boot including an early one and a later SIII wooden onedralf1965 wrote:Lovely car, same colour as mine, that looks like the original colour too, Blu Posillipo. did wonder if it might be some kind of fuel breather/evaporation device to cope with the heat out there. the green pipes do look the same as the ones used around the tank. odd that it's inside the car though...

Re: found & bought - another Alfasud Ti series 1!!
The shell looks very sound from the photos
I had a 5M sud that had a tank like that in the boot - I think it connected to the oil filler neck under the bonnet and my car also had some sort of air pump thing that was driven from another v belt on the front pulley and it pumped air into the exhaust front pipe.I guess it was all some sort of emission control stuff - not sure but I was told that my car had come from South Africa
So long ago now I cant really remember how it all worked now but I soon took it all off and put a twin choke single weber carb/inlet manifold + exhaust from a UK car on it.
Good luck with this project when you start it and look forward to seeing your current project finished - I love the attention to detail you have put into it

Re: found & bought - another Alfasud Ti series 1!!
The silver tag in the engine bay is a compliance plate not a build plate.
All Aussie cars have them, it's just to confirm that they have passed all the Aussie regulations.
The plack thing in the boot is a carbon canister, it is to absorb the fuel vapours when the vapour in the tank expands with the Aussie heat, there is a pipe that will run up to the inlet manifold to be recycled into the intake.
Pollution gear to a point, but if it's not there in a hot environment you can cop a fuel cap in the face when you open the tank due to the pressure. Can also work the other way and the vacuum created if it is blocked stops the fuel getting to the engine.
If you remove it make sure the tank has a breather somewhere.
Not sure how it is set up over there without one.
Be interested to see.

Re: found & bought - another Alfasud Ti series 1!!
Hi all,
sorry its taken so long for me to join in, but i'm absolutely flat out morning noon and late nights at the mo, and as Adi will tell you, sadly the van had a few issues on the return journey from southampton, which i'm still copping the fall out from!

anyway, the car, i think is brilliant!

regardless of the initial purchase price, it has cost Adi a small fortune in getting it over here and home, BUT that said, the investment is more than compensated for in the lack of work needed to restore the car, it is a massive head start compared to something this country could offer, so in comparison, we agreed on our trip back north to nottiingham, it really is an excellent find afterall.
well done Adi, and clearly its is great hands for what work it does need.

ah, very interesting.
did wonder if it might be some kind of expansion chamber/breather unit for the fuel tank as you obviously get a lot more heat down there than damp old blighty.
here we just get a single breather pipe that runs from the top of the tank, through a one way valve then vents to atmosphere. like your system we have to be careful for blockages which prevent air getting into the tank which stops fuel getting out. we don't, unfortunately, have the same issues with heat

Yes that all sounds logical to me, the car should have thoroughly dried off by now after de-salting it so I will go to the barn next week to put her covers on and tuck her in for the winter
