I cleaned all the original paint off and found rust in the seam, presumably due to the front screen letting water in at some point

Thanks mate, I was a mechanical engineer for 20 odd years, but for the last 12 years and full time for the last 8 years I have been running a business trading in new old stock classic car parts on the internet, sort of a hobby became a business...

So I opened up the seam and cleaned all the rust out...

Then filled it with etch primer and closed the seam back up with the hammer and dolly...

Then the whole area was given a coat of etch primer....

Another job done....

Plenty more still to do though....

Have you decided on a colour yet?

The original yellow is a rare and period colour (the only one?), but the metallics look great too.

Not 100% to be honest, it will be a 1976 colour for sure, if no others survive in this original colour then it may sway me....

I was unsure about the colour at first as I bought mine as a naked painted body, but when I added some trim I was convinced the Giallo Pompei is a keeper!

I like the yellow colour also.....it's grown on me.

Should be the only uk sud in that colour if you go for it.

If you need an early type exhaust pipe with the straight pipe to fit though the cut out in the rear valance I have a few and can spare one if you need one....

Yes it is a '76, original Dutch delivered. The second owner had it painted a long time ago in the 90ties but was not happy with the job (they left inside doors in primer, didn't remove one half of the frontspoiler when painting etc.) so it was then left and eventually ended with me. I'm building a special engine with big valve trofeo heads i acquired and will use an adapted CSC exhaust with 50mm pipe welded in the correct position I will start a thread of my own when I start the work.

Next are on this car to be looked at is the front screen/scuttle area, I had to break the front screen to get it out as the last muppit had glued it in with no-nails
Major corrosion found in the 'A' post pillar and screen surround area.....

The car also had a new scuttle panel fitted back in the early 1990's and it was not done very well and is has all needed to be removed to gain access to all the rust and rot beneath and around it and the 'A' post has been bodged up at the bottom

The 'A' posts on these cars are made up of 4 separate pieces and all welded together and then a closure panel pop riveted on. All sections are rotten and need major work.
The first job was to cut out the rotten and corroded metal from the windscreen channel area....

And weld in some new metal and accurately grind it back with the dremel tool.

Next I made up the next section with was completely rotten and welded it in place.

I also refitted the door and shimmed it to its correct position to make sure this pillar is correct as it is being re-built

This revealed another problem....... the last person who messed around here welded the pillar out of position and it was rubbing on the door frame...

Nightmare job!!!

The bottom of the pillar is barely connected to the inner scuttle at this stage so I have had to add a reinforcing strap to hold it in place until I get some more metal back into it because as you can see there is not a lot left at this stage

Next panel made up and spot welded into place, the door gap looks better but needs to be checked all the time

The centre section was heavily corroded and offered no strength at all, glad I cut all this away but this area is going to take weeks to complete, made worse by the fact there isn't a straight edge on the pillar at all, compound curves everywhere...... and the other side of the car will be the same for sure, all hidden from view and only a few small scabs visible externally to begin with. More later in the week......
