TBH the price he was asking was so low compared to the quotes down here it was a "pig in a poke"
Other than the final top coat all looks well

Seems like it's the worst case senario (or however you spell it :roll: )

Paint shop reckon it's oil in the line and it has to be taken back to before topcoat then re primed with blocker then new top coat :oops:

GOOD news though it can now be Verde matesse :D :D :D

Just got to remove most of the stuff I refitted but engine staying put ( they can just do the inner wings and top bulk head as it's not going to be noticeable.

BAD news they can't fit it in till May :evil: :evil:

Not good man, so there putting a barrier coat on to seal what ever nasties are in there :( did theses guys spray it? If yes then you should jump the Que.as it's there cock up?

Does anyone know the address / phone number of the "special" one in southampton ?????

Should of said NO to the bloke who helped me re strip the car ready for the second respray :roll:

I need a front screen as well, early bonded type, these are available in Italy but expensive & it would probably mean a drive over there to pick it up so hoping a few turn up somewhere in the UK.....

They stock SII / SII screens as far as I am aware, I think for about £300 but not 100% sure, they have no stock of the earlier bonded screens though as far as I am aware

Good pointer Ade, however, i suspect this is the source i had a friend of mine from National Windscreens attempt to buy from.

National had a screen listed for the Sud, but couldn't find any stock or availability options after 3 days of trawling about for me, so drew an absolute blank.



That said, i've dropped Pilkington an email directly as Carlton Classic Italian, so maybe if they weren't tried by National, i'll get some sort of result from them directly.


I'll post up any info of course as soon as i hear from them one way or the other.

They are all available from Italy, I have the details somewhere but postage is not really an option so it would mean a road trip! although I have sent windscreens before but they need to go in a purpose made wooden box to be safe and there is no guarantee a seller is going to do that

There is news on screens!

I'm awaiting some more info, but essentially, yes they are available, for series 1,2,and 3 suds, and early and later sprints too.

They are made to order with a lead time of 4-6 weeks.

They do not supply new seals, but have advised that mk1 escort rubber is a close match for the rubber profile.

I have queried some info on the difference between the screens, namely with regards to whether bonded or sealed, but so far this has been a little vague.


Can anyone shed any definitive info on what cars should have what fitment type?


Judging by the info so far, i think we could be in a position to post up a group buy option soon, and i can start doing battle on prices once we have some numbers to shout with!

So good news so far, and another boast for the power of a mates driven forum! Lol!

Up to 1976 were bonded screens, '76 to '78 they had a rubber seal with a stainless steel trim insert, and '78 onwards had a plain rubber seal. The screens with the stainless trim were slightly smaller ( 6mm I think ) than the plain rubber seal screens. Also, some cars had tinted glass, probably ti' s, but not sure.

I also enquired about screens from Italy , as eBay has 2 listed.

However even a good mate who has a regular container shipped direct fom italy wouldn't touch screen delivery, he stopped selling screens years ago due to receiving too many broken ones even in the specialist boxes, no one would insure them so he had to Foot the cost.

So it's Pilkington or shrews 164 boot and road trip.

John (just suds) told me about the 3 different types of screen so I'm sure will help advise on what is needed once shrew has some prices.

My car is a 1976 on a 'P' plate and has a bonded screen, I have left it in place so far through the restoration as there was no problem with grinding marking it as it has a crack across it :) and I thought it would maybe help to keep the shell square and true when I was doing major surgery on the sills etc. It can come out now though as the next area on the shell is the screen surround. I will take it out in the next week or so and get some accurate measurements and post 'em up on here. I would imagine the earlier bonded screens must be the largest type as there is no space needed for the rubber seal but knowing alfa there is no guarantee of that!! :)

mine is a '76 build, R reg car.
no screen in it now, guessing i need the rubber seal with chrome strip......

Ok guys, a little news for you all.

Having had a great conversation with Mike, of Templar Performance, i have some news and prices for the suds and sprint equipment available.

Glass windscreens are available, with a lead time of 1-2 weeks depending on warehouse stock or manufacture.

They are approximately 210 and 150 pounds for sud and sprint respectively, and available in clear, bronze or grey tint option (might be a few extra pounds, i forgot to ask!)


For folk pursuing a diet, wishing to shed some weight from their car, he does full polycarb kits for side and rear glass too, for a 2 door sud or sprint, these come out at around 220 pounds for a 5 piece kit.

All prices are plus 20% Vat.

Mike offers a complete fitting service, which after so many years in the glazing industry, i'm sure would be worth considering unless a dab hand with rubbers and sealants, jee's that can get messy!

he has already displayed a great knowledge of the subtle idio's between sud models and screens and reports as follows.

all screen apertures are the same size, series 1 ,2 and 3, the same size.

the later series 3 screen, will fit, properly, all models, if used with a the correct rubber seal profile (or mk2 cortina rubber profile!)

it will also bond in to series 1.

the odd ball is the series 2 with the different rubber seal and chrome spreader, which unless building a concours, i would fit a series 3 glass and new seal, personally.



So thats the word from Templar Perfromance.

I've invited Mike to come and join the forum, hopefully it could be good for all of us, as he certainly knows his onions, and covers just about everything and more!
