After some elementary fault finding for a dead fuel pump, I extracted the pump assembly from the tank. As you can see, the pump hasn't fared too well, nor have the pipe clips and the banjo couping & bolt (these are not part of the pump); car has been dry stored with a third of a tank of fuel. After removal of the pump, I knocked off the fine metal gauze from the bottom of it. Rust fell out, pump seized solid, so it's scrap. The lesson is keep the tank full enough to keep the pump fully submerged.
Pump is a standard Bosch item, readily available from several vendors on eBay. If you need to replace the rubber gasket/pump mount or the three legged anti vibration pad on the bottom of the pump basket (long term, fuel attacks them) a little cunning is required as you won't find them on any Alfa supplier site.
Go to Maranello Classic Parts & select the Ferrari F355. Go to the fuel system page, there's a picture of a very similar set up to the 164. At time of writing, both parts are available. Make sure you select the gasket for 53mm diameter pumps (two sizes available)
