Lancia Appia

Went to look at the Saab 96, but ended up checking over a Lancia Appia at Brightwells today.

Made my Sud look very crude indeed. The quality just shone through.

Sat in it the door swung gently back and almost shut, then I went to lift the door opening handle to swing it open again and slam it, but got it wrong and the door door just slid too when I lifted the catch and shut perfectly.

The fit of the panels and effort put into it to get it all working harmoniously was impressive.

That's pretty car but with a column change did they ever come with a bench seat? I'd still have it tho'

Very good paint on the Lotus and i knelt down next to it to see how low it was and it struck me as quite amazing how high all the other cars around appear.

Next to a big truck on the motorway it must feel disconcerting. Great car though in fab condition and will go quite cheap i think.

I have found that it's not a problem when you are on the move - it only feels slightly intimidating when you are stuck in traffic. Only then do you realise that you don't even come up to a lorry's wheel nuts

Of course yours is a similar height. Had not thought of that. Have you compared them closely at any time?

Lancia went for 6K . That feels very cheap having looked the car over. Just need more sheds first I think.

I did read through mate and agreed with it all, the Appia is a fantastic bit of design, world leaders back in the day. That narrow angle V4 is a thing of beauty, there was an article in the LMC mag recently about how well they go compared to stuff of the period.

How do you think they compare for spares, availability and cost with Alfa?

Well, I guess they're harder than anything to get bits for really.

I'd love a 50's Lancia, or even a 60's.

About the only car that will tempt me to get back in the workshop for a full resto that's for sure, but that won't even be a possibility for a few years. Retirement looms from big jobs, until the temptation looms

Yep, with you there. I am just restoring a 1965 bicycle at the moment and that feels like a nice level to be working at.

Swinnerton cycles are still going they’re my local bike shop about 6 miles from me.
