Hi Liam
Funny enough I was reading online today . Alfa are back in f1 next year with sauber . They will be their main sponsor plus give technical support. 8-) Ferrari will supply new engines too. Great news me thinks :D

Surely Rob Austin campaigning a Giulia in BTCC is better? The F1 connection is just too tenuous - essentially it just means that Alfa technicians will be moonlighting on a Ferrari engine???

Ooops - forgot to say, today I was reading a white paper on electromagnetic interference in Hall Effect thrusters... Well, you did ask!

 :?
Yeah I agree it would be better having an Alfa in btcc . look what happened when the 155 was winning. The sales went through the roof. And yes it's a rebadged Ferrari engine. But at least it gets the name back in the sport :D

I was reading that too John, ironic that Ferrari started F1 racing with Alfa Romeo Cars, but adds more interest to the field for the likes of us Alfa fans. They are talking of Leclerc and Giovinazzi as drivers so could be a good line up of young racers, although they still have Ericsson on their books! And Alfa back in BTTC with Handy Motorsport. looking forward to next seasons calendar.

Should I be worried as I was thinking of fitting thrusters to the Sud.

Just been reading up on the D50 very interesting 1954 designed by Vittorio Jano who designed many of the early Alfa GP, Targa cars. And won the 1956 world championship although known by then as the Ferrari D50. I didn't even realise Lancia had raced in F1!! Learn something every day especially when reading (link back to the thread title)

Yes, the D50 was a very successful F1 car, far better than the Ferrari in the mid 50's. Only the death of Alberto Ascari at the wheel of a D50 prompted Gianni Lancia (son of Vicenzo, Lancia founder) to sell everything to Ferrari who raced the D50 as a Ferrari to great success..Gianni apparently mourned Ascari's death for some time...

For books like that I often wonder if the author would be interesting, if you got stuck in a lift with him?

I know what you mean - all that quantum relativity hooplah makes my brain hurt. I much prefer the nuts and bolts of space travel, not that we do much of it these days - 'elf and safety and all that

A bit low-brow in comparison, perhaps, but I've been reading and re-reading Alfa Romeo T33 - the development and racing history by messrs Collins and McDonough. I keep looking for more technical insight but unfortunately it isn't there. Pictures are nice though :D

I have to add that i think the early T33 Stradale, with the staggered twin headlights, is simply one of the most gorgeous cars ever, achieveing both butch and wide aswell as graceful lines perfectly!

and leagues ahead in the busy end too! :D

I absolutely agree. It's a shame that only one relatively short chapter is allocated to the Stradale in the book, although I guess that is fair given that it was not a commercial success. Mighty influential though!

Today I am reading the history of Italian Sports Cars by Winston Goodfellow. As a previous owner of a Bizzarrini AMX/3 (Goodfellow, not me) I guessed the author would know a thing or two about the subject and I wasn't disappointed...

Yes the stradale is fabulous. :D I wonder why there seems to be no replica's about ?

Or have I missed something. Probably too hard to get close too that perfect shape.

There have been a couple of attempts that I know of. A company in France were supposedly selling a replica shell to complement their Alpine A110 replica, and I'm pretty sure there was a German replica as well. Neither were mass produced though. I also came across, completely by chance, a replica Stradale made in the UK and based on a re-bodied Vauxhall VX220 - at least that is what I was told be someone that recognised the transverse 4-cylinder engine that was showing through the back window. It was a feature about Owls on the One Show. They were nesting on an airfield site where Russell Savory has a workshop.

There have also been a couple of attempts to recreate the Alfa Carabo concept car, which was the first concept to be built using the Stradale chassis - the Custoka/Custoca Strato from Germany and the Fiberfab Aztec 7 from the US. Both highly inaccurate!

Latest AROC magazine - lots of articles by Jon Dooley on racing Alfasuds! Plus, someone else that agrees that luxury lifestyle soft-roaders are boring, even if they have an Alfa badge on the front. I thought it was just me :?
