Whilst perusing the Italian classifieds site Subito.it I came across this ad for a formula junior type car that appears to be powered by a mid mounted Alfasud engine.
I have never seen a racing car of this configuration before or read anything about them. Wondered if anyone on the Forum has come across one of these before or knows anything about them?

Here's an interesting one
Re: Here's an interesting one
Hi Sam - the only single seater racing series to use the Alfa boxer engine was the Formula Boxer Europa series in the early '80s. This is definitely NOT one of those cars!
The ad says the car is from the 1960s, which it might well be, but must have been fitted with an early boxer unit at some later date - I would have thought a more appropriate engine for this age of chassis would be the Alfa twin-cam, some examples of which have found their way into single seaters over the years.
That's my guess anyway...

PS - the Boxer Europa series was an attempt by Alfa to run a single-engine racing series similar to Formula Ford. All the cars used sealed 1.7 16v boxer engines with a Hewland transmission (FT200). Anyway, when Fiat took over they didn't want to promote the boxer engine any more and killed the series. It had only run for two years...
