had to post this, mega proud and chuffed.

my lad rob has just finished 2 years at college, they can't just leave school at 16 like we did...
so he's been doing a mechanical engineering course for 3 days a week while working at a local garage for the other 3 days to earn his cash.
chuffed when he got student of the year on his course for last month, then he's been for a few interviews.

today he got offered an apprenticeship at the local Suzuki dealership, loads more training plus time at the UK training centre. chuffed to bits that he's getting a proper start in learning the job at a main dealers, I never did get to such a decent level.

well done rob, proud of you ;)

Congratulations Rob (and your parents!!).
So nice to hear that some of the new generation of youngsters have an interest in learning a trade that actually produces something.
Top man, and I am sure many share my good wishes for your future career. :D

Yes, well done to get top student. 8-)

As an ex course team leader they were always the ones who put in most and thus got the most back.

We used to reckon a student like Rob learnt twice as much as the average one.

Also it was a pleasure to teach such lads rather than the `I am just here cos my mates came on this course'.

It was always going to happen i think.

Having known Rob for a few years, he's not your typical chavvy twat on a street corner at all, and thankfully the rewards have equalled his efforts.

I think he'll be off to a flying start with Suzuki, part of a good automotive career for the future, and with his bright attitude he'll go places i'm sure.

Well done Rob.

As i'm sure you know, we all have to start at the bottom, which reminds me, you have an Imp to sand down!

life's full of surprises.

our sarah made this at school....really nice little unit, I could never begin to make one.

it's a little speaker thingy, plug your 'phone or whatever device into the jack plug, place it on the stand on top of the box and it makes a much better job of playing tunes than the inbuilt speaker. know these things are readily available for I phones etc but useful for plugging into my phone

she made the box, wired up all the bits and pieces, fitted a colour changing light, little switch on the back, Perspex front to show off the innards. never did 'owt like this at my school......or rather while I was at that school...

Great news that Rob has got an apprenticeship with Suzuki.
I think you should encourage him to appreciate the UK historic vehicles of his new employer :D
May I suggest you find him a 1974 GT 250 to restore!

Sometimes you get opportunities for further education with your apprenticeship. My advice would be to grab it with both hands even if further education is a slog as I found. Looking back, the qualifications unlock all manner of opportunities.

Well done Rob.

Had a red one of those new - traded in a Triumph 650 TR6C for it, hindsight is a wonderful thing. The earlier Hustler would be even better if you can find one.

got myself a new car this weekend, always liked the 159 so as this one came up that had suitably high miles (keeps it in my meagre budget ;) ) and importantly a cloth interior I had it in my watch list.
kind of forgot about it until last week down the unit when I got a reminder, stuck a bid on and actually won it!

been to work in it today, they drive with a much more solid feel than the 147/156 cars, quite pleased with it so far....

mixed bag of fortunes the last few days

collected a great new welder off shrew last week. really is a much better one than i'd been using so although mine packing up was a pain it turned out nice. much smoother welder 8-)

was on the way to see ade and everyone at rockingham sunday morning when the 159 made a horrible rattle and stopped...luckily I guess only a couple hundred yards from home so easily pushed. cambelt tensioner had broken despite it only being done in January this year under the previous owners alfa specialist down south. these things happen I guess :( will find out tomorrow afternoon the extent of damage, initial strip on sunday doesn't look too bad...

tonight I paid up for what I agreed to buy recently, a pair of lancia delta HF turbo's.
they're both not much beyond rolling shells, one much better than the other
only really needed to chop the strut top/inner wings off the white one for my integrale but the guy wanted to sell as a pair. the grey one will actually fairly easily make a decent car again so another project for the pile :D

159 not playing ball, more issues to solve.

so bought a very cheap facelift 147 jtd. got a few issues being an unloved example but I quite like it, guy at work says it looks like jack duckworth due to the parcel tape holding the n/s door mirror on :D

did a precautionary cambelt change today...don't want a repeat disaster

seem to have some practice on jtd's mate that's for sure! not a bad one to do by cambelt standards though.

i'll get around to sorting the 159 sometime, in no rush just now, the 147 will keep me mobile.

most likely i'll keep them both. the few weeks I used the 159 for work and everyday use it did bug me that I was getting it filthy and jumping in with work boots etc on with a cream cloth interior was a recipe for a grubby car. keeping it for occasional use and using the 147 as a daily hack with no fear of getting a car park ding or boot prints in the carpet is worth more than the £360 I paid for the 147!
