Alfa 75 V6 24v Project

Hi guys,

Good to see a lot of familiar usernames here

This project begun a long time ago.....Longer than i care to admit but for the most part of it i was based in Germany and the car was in UK. I had 30 days a year to work on it if i was lucky but in the last year since ive had the car stored somewhere very accessible lets say....progress has moved on considerably.

So the basic lowdown on the car;

1989 3.0v6 Veloce
24v 164 super engine conversion (fully stripped, cleaned,re-built)
AHM throttle body kit
Emerald K6 ECU with a self built loom (that was a learning curve)
17" Zender Milano wheels
Tar-Ox 6 pot brake upgrade
Gearbox had the same treatment as the engine
Every RsR suspension component which they offered
Custom upper suspension arms to accommodate the coilovers
Interior stripped
dash chopped to the bare minimum
Currently having a FULL custom exhaust built from the block to the rear bumpers in 316 stainless steel to my spec (loud)
Perspex windows
Roll cage etc etc etc

Its easier to list what is original really so thats the chassis and the body panels.

No real progress unfortunately,

Spoke to the guy who is building the exhaust, said he has made a start on it but didnt realise how tricky the manifolds would be.....i did warn him it was tight down there He is pushing on though between other jobs etc.

Ive also booked autoglass to go down to where the car is and fit a new windscreen which would be one less job to worry about when the car returns. Annoyingly for me there isnt really anything i can be getting on with in the meantime so im just playing the waiting game really

Its been a while

Mainly because the guy who was meant to be building my exhaust decided he was just going to cock me about to the point where i collected the car from him and demanded a refund.

So rather than going through the hassle of finding someone else to do it ive decided to go with the much easier option of creating a headache by doing it myself. Spent a few weeks of looking at the car trying to work out how i wanted to do it, regretting my decision and moaning like a child, this weekend though ive just cracked on. Started with the drivers side as this is the most restricted due to the starter motor, ill then mirror exactly the same on the passenger side. Im doing the best i can to keep the primarys eqaual length and in my head at least....its working out so far (give or take a few mm)

So anyway, heres where im at so far.........

Not sure at the moment, was toying with the idea of making a "road use" enclosure for them with direct air feed from the front. This seems the best idea given that the raised manifolds are going to increase the ambient temp under the bonnet (even though they'll be wrapped) Then have a set of ITG filter socks for anything else such as driving to meets/shows etc

Partly that, but also there isnt much room down low and the pipework is quite a bit larger in diameter than the original 12v. I had a few other designs mocked up, all of which were hindered by the fact the engine would need removing in order to fit/remove the manifolds. Most bespoke systems which ive seen for the 24v conversions seem to favour coming up where the room is plentyful

They're pretty short but compact and simple, and plenty of folk still use them even in track/race cars so they can't be too restrictive even for tuned motors, so although not perfect (as if there was such a thing!) they seem to be good enough.


Sorry, i know you've started now and will no doubt make a grand job of it too, i'm just suggesting a simplified but adequate route, that will speed things up notably for you Aaron.

Yes, i believe you could adapt them to suit, not sure how much work would be required. But tbh im past the point of worrying how long this car is taking to finish but instead using it as an engineering playground for me to learn and grow my skills. will be nice to know once its done that ive pretty much built it from the ground up.

Been a busy time for me lately with many many things in the making, but i found time to get down the workshop and finish the first manifold. Very happy with how it turned out, just need to mirror the same on the opposite side now.



The first picture only shows it tack welded but i can assure you its all been done now.

I was quite shocked, at the pick up. Quite keen to get on and finish the rest of the exhaust now. Good to know its running well on all cylinders and my wiring has worked

did you use a lightened flywheel? that often helps improve pick up i'm told...

No mate, Original 12v flywheel. The ITB's Have clearly had something to do with the pick up here as its the main thing to change from standard. Also i dont have a power steering pump or A/C which i guess would reduce it a little.

I was very shocked at how well it picks up, especially seeing as the prop is in direct contact with the flywheel which would add some resistance.
