Hope all goes well tomorrow Shrew, - thanks for sharing this. My dad used to say " a wise man learns by his mistakes, - a wiser man learns by other peoples mistakes" - I think everyone on here is a wiser man after this, - it's so easy to do what you've done. Hope it clears up quick !

I'll add to the 'Blimey Shrew!' list! Cripes, it looks grim but at least you are now in the right hands (pun intended). Seriously, hope it all goes well tomorrow and can be sorted with or without the cast - the important thing is it gets sorted! Keep us informed!

Six weeks in a cast, bloody hell that will be nearly Xmas. What on earth are you going to do to stop going nuts? You will need some rehabilitation to distract you. Are you any good with Jig-saws? NO what am I saying Lol. Seriously good luck at the hospital Matey.

Thank you everyone, much appreciated,

You bring tears to my eyes you lot, cheers! ;)

As kev said, part 1 of surgery behind me, which was to open me up, clean me out, and search for the remains of the distender tendons.

Because the tendons are severed, they even pulled the knuckle joint apart to inspect, crikey that felt weird even under a block anaesthetic, which is a fair bit less than 100% knumb i can tell you! :?

So back under the knife today hopefully, just waiting for my gowns now, ha ha!

So lets see if they can put this right,

Look away now if your having a meat related breakfast!

Bloodfire!!

As above mate, only just caught up with this thread.. Hoping all went well in procedure #2, and that they sent you home with some juicy meds.

Really appreciate your reply to my plastic trims question given the context

hi all

apologies ahead for lack of posts, but left handed single digit typing is already getting on my nerves! :D

ok, update, 2nd procedure went well, wound is currently clean, tendon status is,

1 reconnected, the other 1 is a mixture of reconnected and grafted locally to the bone due to being more damaged and the infection eroding it far shorter than ideal :P

i'm back at the ossy again next week for wound check and dressing change, which hopefully will be a little smaller than the elephants thigh i'm currently sporting for a right forearm! :D

with a bit of luck, thats the last of the gore, blood and snot, but, its only the beginning of a very lengthy healing and repair process, but i must add a few really important points.

1stly, please everyone, learn by my mistake, be careful. Accidents happen as we all know, but when they do, don't be a pratt like me, go get the right treatment straight away. Fear of losing a days progress is going to cost me weeks now, right on the run up to crimbo! :|

2ndly, thanks everyone for the comments, thoughts and well wishing messages. You're all fantastic, thanks and stay safe! :P

and finally, the nhs, in particular the hand unit at royal derby hospital, has to be congratulated and applauded, big time!

they have been bloody marvellous, and thank god this country still has even an ailing health service, because without them i would possibly be without a hand!

right, pain killer, antibiotic, and anti-inflammatory time,

cup of tea required :D

oh my god, daytime tv is just a killer isn't it,

Jeremy Kyle does make me laugh though, but his mate Graham didn't need to be the program's counsellor or psychotherapist,

he should have been a dentist!

Haha, I've only ever seen 20 mins of Jeremy Kyle - it was full of UK Rednecks so I get the dentist reference! One of the couples on there were much less pleasant versions of Harry Enfields' Wayne and Waynetta Slob!

Anyways, glad the NHS has been good so far, here's to a speed recovery :)

Hi Shrew,
Really pleased to hear you have turned a corner and your hand is getting better.

My mate in Belgium decided to lift a heavy steel plate out of his pond last autumn and severed tendons on the inside of two fingers.
He had several operations and it was a worrying time as the fingers tightened up. After quite a bit of physio his fingers are now working perfectly.

You sound very positive which is great.
All the best,

Simon

Yes i think the aftercare, physio, and patience is the key now to a successful recovery to the best ability possible.

The only problem with that will be, errr, Me!

Can you be too loyal?

Given the many options of colours yesterday for my new splint and bandage ensemble, i studied the choices very carefully until there was a clear winner,
