Bigger wheels
Am looking to change the wheels on my blue ti, its currently on 13x7 Ronal A1's with 185/60 tyres. Am just wondering what options i have on wheel sizes? Either a 14" or 15" am thinking! Does anyone know the widths and offset id need to be looking at? Seems there's not much out there in 14" and the 15's are a minimum of 7" wide which am thinking might be too big??

Re: Bigger wheels
I've got 7x15 with 195/50/15 and only had to roll lip on arches to stop rubbing and its 60mm lower as well will look at offset when I get to work

Re: Bigger wheels
A 195 50 15 set up is just 25mm larger diameter than a 185 60 13, so will fill the arch 12.5mm more and sit 12.5mm higher too on the same suspension.
So if the width and offset arent radically different it is a painless exercise to run 15's.
I've got a few 15" wheel sets, running 195, 205, and 215 tyres, but also trofeo arches to use so going for a wide set up anyway, but be careful on what effect it can have on slow speed steering, it can start feeling heavy as the track and footprint starts to expand!
Looks and drives great though, I'd recommend 15's all day long

Re: Bigger wheels
I know it's down to personal taste, but can't help thinking 15inch would compromise the looks of a series 1 ti. I prefer to see them retro on the 13s or perhaps 14s.
Some big fat wide 13 inch wheels for me.
What offset are the ronals out of interest?

Re: Bigger wheels
Factory fitted 13" rims are fitted with 165/70/13 street tyres, but for track days I am using a set of 14" (5.5" 36ET) with Toyo R888R 185/60/14.
With 14" rims you must fit 185/55/14 to get same overall diameter, but Toyo do not give such an option thus a bit of a higher gearing and slower acceleration. For best looks originally fitted 13" are the best, but road holding suffers compared to 14" ones.

Re: Bigger wheels
Thanks for your input lad's, I really don't know which wheels to go for. Iv always liked 13" wheels but these Ronaldo A1's just look too wide and I got a few stone chips down the front of the rear arches due to stones coming up from the front wheels as they stick out from the arches quite a bit. So since iv just resprayed it I'd like to put a better wheel on it before any stone chips start to appear. my S2 has the same size wheels but it looks spot on due to the plastic arches giving the wheel arches a bit more width and the wider lower edge stopping any stone chips. There's some really nice wheels on ebay but mostly the good ones are 13/7 or 15/7, not bad when you can buy brand new wheels for under £350 Inc delivery, centre caps and wheel bolts.
Can I buy 13/7 wheels with a lower offset which allows the wheel to sit closer in so they're not sticking out from the arches so much? If so does anyone know what offset ill need?

Re: Bigger wheels
My 7x15 are et35 and very close to rear suspension arms and front struts so any more than that would need spacers to clear

Re: Bigger wheels
Thanks Simon
ill take a look at what offset my Ronal's are and see what other 13/7 wheels might do the job at near that 35 offset.
Thanks again!

Thanks again!

Re: Bigger wheels
I've just had a look on the Internet and it seems the 13/7 Ronal A1's have an offset of 39.5! So am I right in thinking an offset of 35 will have the wheel 4.5mm closer in under the arches? If so I think an 30 offset might be better, do you think I'd get away with an extra 5mm before the wheels faul the struts and rear arms? Simon?

Re: Bigger wheels
I think the Ronal 13/7 are et 20 and the 15/7 are 25. the 14/6 are 36 if i remember it right. Or 39?

Just to add to the mix.
I wanted some pretty wild "dish" AKA BMW to mine, I've gone up to 7 1/2 inch (from memory) only to find that these days manufactures make their wheels to suit the smallest offset and if any owners want a larger one they simply machine off the inside "hub" to suit.
This resulted in mine even though being 7 1/2's I still only got a similuar "dish" than I would of done with a 5 1/2.
If I were you talk to image wheels, Rodger had his made there and they could at least give you some feedback if you wanted Ronal replica's

Re: Bigger wheels
It's the other way round on the ET, the larger the number the further under the arches towards the inner wing the wheel.
Thoss Ronals on your car are closer to what Jan said from the pics (the blue one) which is why they stick out.
My compomotives are ET 25 if I remember. An ET between 25 and 30 should be what you want depending on width.
Have you thought about some 7 inch minilight style.

Re: Bigger wheels
Thanks Jan i must have been looking at 13x5.5 with the offset of 39.5. An offset of 20 on the 13x7 should make it quite easy to get better fitting wheels of about 35et
Iv been using this offset calculator to try and work out what wheels ill be able to use.
http://www.wheel-size.com/calc/?wheel1= ... m&scl=50mm
I wondered if id got the offset right so i definately need to double check things before i go ahead and order any up, so thanks for correcting me veesix
Iv looked at loads of different styles and sizes, but the 15x7 definatly have the better designed wheels but theyr all VW 4x100 pcd so ill have to use wobbly bolts if i choose to go with those. Iv got all winter to choose some so iv got plenty of time to do my homework on it

Re: Bigger wheels
I'v recently bought another set of wheels for the sud. I decided to go for a set of 14/6 Ronal's A1 same type as the ones am taking off! So if anyones interested in the 13/7, they'r for sale. They come with virtually new Yokohama A539 tyres!
