Just one more example which is different.
S3, 1.2ti gearbox, early discs. It has a spacer ring and a thin spidery spacer instead of the wide spidery spacer.

Pretty much everything has been said, but to add to the confirmation, I used :
Big spacer with early 4 lug / stud disc
Smaller spacer with later 6 hole solid disc
The gearbox made no difference to the above, it's the disc - solid or not solid.
And finally I used a small spacer when converting to outboard discs and using a 33 driveshaft.

i have a dozen or so used shafts in my unit, one day i'll get around to inspecting them to find out the differences.
