Very nearly there now with the prep. and corrosion protection before the shell goes off to be painted !!

The drivers side rear 1/4 panel has taken ages to get to profile back to the correct shape - the main reason for this was that the wheelarch repair (this was an old but good repair) was put over the existing panel rather that put underneath as I have now done on the passengers side - the drivers side also had accident damage to it to repair - after hours with the profile gauge (comparing to a new 2 door factory 1/4 panel) did get there in the end but with hindsight it would have been quicker to cut the arch off and start again (did consider this but the new inner arch had already been fitted !)
sud 107.jpg
The front inner wing boxed panels have been filled with wax and the closing panels all sealed up
sud 105.jpg
The next thing to finish up is coating all the areas that have been repaired or had the factory underseal removed with this stuff
sud 108.jpg
Rear end and sills have had a coat - need to finish up under the front inner wings next
sud 102.jpg
sud 099.jpg
This will then get a coat of black stoneguard to try and replicate the finish it would have had when it rolled out of the showroom all those years ago but hopefully with the metal protected properly now !

The new tailgate is ready to go on now
SUD 066.jpg
Bit of stripping back of the factory primer required due to surface corrosion in storage !

This tailgate must be from a later car than mine as it had the 2 holes in the middle of it for the big round Alfa badge where as mine has 1 badge each side of the tailgate so had to weld up the 2 holes and make 1 extra on the right side for the long badge and small repair to the corner where it was slightly bent
sud 109.jpg
sud 110.jpg
The small dent on the roof has been repaired as well
sud 106.jpg
Coming along very well now

Not sure about "very soon" but at least I can see the light at the end of the tunnel with the bodywork now - at least until it comes back from painting and I have to put it all back together again

I hope to make a start on the engine and gearbox over the next few weeks once the bodyshell has gone to paint shop

32 items came back from powder coating yesterday so this all now needs putting back together, new bushes fitting so still lots to do yet

It would be good to some more 33 restoration theads on here as well

Hi All looks great.

What did you find the best way was to get the foam out of the cavities in the car. I seem to be faffing a lot with out great results.

Certainly is coming on very nicely now, great to see.

Bet the powder coated parts are nice, i loved opening the oven door to a collection of metalwork hanging there, better than new! Marvellous!

There will be a 33 thread coming shortly, not quite as in depth as the current sud rebuilds, but a thorough overhaul nonetheless (at last!)

Hi James

I have not had any foam to deal with thankfully - it seems that the later cars did not have this foam but the donor car I have which is a 1981 S3 hatchback TI does have it in the front chassis legs - maybe some of the S1 restorers will be able to answer the best way to remove it but I guess it would be to open up the box sections and "dig" it all out

I hope a bit of effort now will pay off in the long run Kev and keep the corrosion at bay - it has been a great help that this car was fairly rust free and very original to start with

I will post up pictures as all the suspension etc. gets put back together again

Coming on a treat mate ;)
Another car saved which is great to see
I noticed there was a dent or 2 in the roof, My car had the same problem and I have seen others with damage over the years, all down to the thin gauge of metal used as we all know.....

Thanks for all of your comments and encouragement - not done too much for the last week or so !!

I guess the small dent in the roof is connected to the original accident

One thing that I have been doing is finding the stickers for under the bonnet

Got the oil one from Steve Parry (Mr Sud) on Ebay and the spare parts + ignition warning from Chris Sweetapple at Highwood Motor Co.
sud 112.jpg
sud 113.jpg
Does anyone have a white paint code sticker as all I have from the original one is this !
sud 111.jpg
I guess the last owner liked cleaning under the bonnet and it has all worn away

The paint code is 015 "Banco Capodimonte"

Have you got the inner wing panel fitted to your sud yet Adi ?

Hope to be back on with progress next week

A small job done today was to make 10 square holes and 2 round holes in the new left sill panel for the sill moulding clips & wax holes

Did not think it would take too long but was nearly 2 hours in the end after lots of measuring from the other side and the remaining bit of cut off sill that I had kept so help with this job - another step closer to going to paint !

Gary,

For the paint code decal, you might try Mount Carmel Spares:
http://www.mtcarmelspares.com

Alternatively, full decal sets for the Alfasud and plenty more cars are available here:
http://www.carclassic.biz/

I got a full set for my Sud Sprint from these guys and have got to say that the quality is good.

Only thing is that, as the decals are made overseas and to order for your specific model and its year of manufacture, you may find that the International postage isn't the quickest so you might have to wait a while to receive them.

Hope this helps.

Hi Colin

Not seen that Mount Carmel site before so thanks for the link to that - it looks like this is where Highwood get the stickers that they sell from as they look exactly the same

I did buy a "Bianco Capodimonte" paint sticker from Highwood but it is not correct for a Sud - I guess it is for the 105 series cars
sud 121.jpg
This is what the one on my brown sprint looks like and I guess the one for the white Sud would be similar
sud 116.jpg
What did you get in the set that you got from carclassic.biz ? I have emailed them 3 times now since DickyB put up the link to them a while ago but never got any reply at all

Did you get the coil or alternator stickers in the kit ?

Hello Sud 145

My tailgate could be repaired but as I had a new one I have used that

Mine has also corroded from the holes for the plastic tubes
sud 122.jpg
sud 123.jpg
Not sure what to do with these tubes on my new tailgate - could weld the holes up and do away with them or fit them with loads of wax around them

I think the problem with the drain tubes is that they sit proud and the water has to be "Deep" before any drains out. The guy that restored mine formed the corners into a well with the tubes recessed. Jobs a goodun.

Hi Gary.

Carclassic.biz: Communication isn't their strongest point I've found but the decals themselves are spot on. They're pretty comprehensive as a set and are of excellent quality. You can't really tell the difference from the originals. I'll try and get some pictures uploaded here later today to show exactly what's included in the kit.

After spending a good couple of months sourcing spares from all over Europe and beyond, ODE is now just about ready for her rolling restoration. I've spent too much time just driving her to be honest. :D

Plans though have been made so watch this space! ;)

Thanks for the pictures Colin - I see that you do get the ignition coil sticker in the set, shame it says "Made in Spain" and not Germany !

Does your sprint still have its original paint sticker under the bonnet ?

If so any chance of a picture of it

Also can anyone else with a Sud that has got an original paint sticker (any colours ) put a picture on here - just trying to work out if they all have the same basic layout - if so I wonder if we could get some made

Thanks for the pictures guys

Looks like there are a few different styles of sticker then !

Any more of you got an original one ? I have a feeling on the cars with a boot i.e. pre hatchback the sticker was in the boot

That is where mine was. You may notice the edge of mine has red paint on it.
It was re-sprayed red early in its life including inside the boot, but they left, and masked out the original colour sticker.
