lol, sounds like a few of us are in the same boat tim
was kinda the idea of the community garage, access and some storage for all. if enough of us clubbed in we could get a decent sized place, but then we are all spread around enough to make it un-realistic
how many of us would pay rent for a workshop that was a 2 hour ride away?
i'm still on the lookout but it's finding something big enough, quiet enough & cheap enough......hard to please.

the front grille, anyone help with whether the bars inside the heart should be chrome coloured or black?
can't work out if they were originally chrome and have been painted black which has faded and peeled, or if they were supposed to be black which has peeled revealing chrome effect plastic....
looked through pics in the ti brochures i have, some pics look like the bars should be chromed and some look black...
looking in other brochures the other, non ti models appear to have chromed bars inside the heart plus the central bar being chromed.
here's the best grille i have, one side of the heart having been quickly wiped over with G3 so should come up ok.

Kev, as far as i know they should be black, mine is anyway, but it does peel off rather easily.

so maybe it's a plastic chrome that's been painted black? that's about what i figured from the brochures i have.
guess a bit of matt or satin black will be in order, nothing bright like gloss black
cheers mate

Kev, mine is all chrome, but it had been bumped at the front so the grill isn't original.
Not sure what it should be, perhaps I need to black mine. My indicators are chrome as well.
Sorry.

Not sure , quite like the blacked out look.
Col, is the yellow sud owned by Miles ?
I am sure it followed me into NAD 2011 and I spoke to the owner there (in the rain). I can not remember if that is the guy in the picture.
I love the fact that we all have different colours.

Yeah Keith thats Miles alright, his s2 is identical to the first one i owned when i was 19, brought back a lot of memories when i first saw it at NAD Renishaw Gardens about 6 or 7 yrs ago. Its a really nice example as well it drives like its brand new, only got 40 odd k on it!!

Funny how so many of us were at that meet.
Is Miles on here as well, and is he from your neck of the woods? I take it you were there as well?
Was this where Kev won the concourse?

Nice silverware Kev, is that the trophy that acknowledges the work done by the owner?
I saw the car there and wanted to chat with the owner but didn't know you then but knew your name as we had communicated over ebay once over some bits you were selling.

yeah Kev i'll give Miles a heads up about the site next time i speak to him. As far as i know its both the s1 and s2 Ti models that had the centres blacked out. I much prefer them painted i think its a more subtle look..

it was the robert gharibi trophy kieth, awarded to the car that has had the best self done rstoration by the owner so the cheque book cars don't get a look in.
very proud to have won it to be honest
getting a peoples choice though, that is pretty special too, well done matey
cheers col, that'd be great giving miles a nudge

remind him he did promise to join up
i've flatted off the plastic/chrome bars tonight. have run out of etch so will get some tomorrow and get them painted.
matt black or satin black you reckon?
guess i'll have to do the rest of the grille so it matches even though i've removed the heart

Hmm, interesting. My Sud donor was a 1978 S2, and I still have the grille and shield - I was toying with the idea of putting it on the Nova, but then I would have been back to square one with the number plate, so it never happend.
But the bars on my shield appear to be chrome finish, unless 'er Ladyship (that's HRH Duchess of Kent) had the paint cleaned off
NAD 2011 was a good do all round - I don't remember seeing so many Suds in one place, completely outnumbered any other model. Thoroughly enjoyed the day, in spite of the weather... and the small matter of the leaking cam carrier gasket (3 litres of oil deposited on the exhaust manifold!!!)

i remember the rain showers lauren, just when i got the car dried and looking ok the rains came again.
gave up in the end
shame to say i didn't see half of those suds there that day, the process of doing the concours thing kept you busy all day. nice but i prefer the chatting thing
interesting about the grille on your donor car
i've started the process of painting mine now though, in keying the surface i got through the black, through the "chrome" and into the yellow of the plastic
at least the plastic primer should have something to stick to

Thanks Keith - and sorry for hijacking your thread with random pictures Kev!
I will have a good look at my grille at the weekend and see if I can see any traces of paint on the bars...
