Nope, I had no idea. But the history of the company did remind me of an article I wrote once about the FMC XR311 (the predecessor to the HUMVEE) - FMC (Food Machinery Corporation) started life as an unholy alliance between a prune picking machine and an irrigation pump

Hmm. Wolseley 1500(?), an early Vauxhall Velox (perhaps), Ford Mk4 and one of those Sunbeam Alpine hardtop thingies?

That's what I meant - Zephyr Mk4.

Sunbeam Harrington Le Mans?

Hmm. It's a first series Velox, pre-dating the PA series. Pre-'56?

How much more detail were you after? I'm not sure I know the engine block code...

Second one is easy, so at least try and get the exact model without google, it was very nice.

Right here goes......

Keith, Ferrari 250 Pininfarina California Spyder.

Simon, that looks like an alternator on an engine to me? :D :D Mind you what do I know about the oily bits?

Veesix, First one looks quite a serious bit of kit; Lotus twin cam, Hewland Mk9 gearbox. first thought it might be a Chevron B8 but they're lower and usually have BMW motors so I reckon it's a Ginetta G12.......?

Second car is a Datsun........but not my thing so don't know the model......but then again it could be a Mazda as well, or a Toyota! :D

Shoulder on the mend but still sore and not very mobile. Aiming to be fit for Croft in July and starting physio on Tuesday.

Cheers all, Ted

I knew you would get it Ted, glad to hear you are on the mend. My Dad dislocated his shoulder a while ago (I know he is an old gent now ) but that put him out of action for months !!

Simon , sorry no idea on your picture, bit too modern for me.

Tim, no good on yours either other than a tasty looking Datsun. Oh ! and Sprint :D

Hi Ted,
Good luck with the physio.

You are partly right that it is an alternator.
The clue is that it is it is a very wide drive belt and there is a tensioner on both sides.

Simon

Lauren

PS - I got the Ginetta G12, still pondering the Datsun - I like a bit of 1970s JDM!

PPS - after consulting a couple of books I think it is a Datsun Sunny coupe?

OK. What is the most widely used product patented by Henry Royce in 1800 and something?
Old enough?

I recall that Henry had an electrical company and I think his most widely used patent is the bayonet light bulb socket? If I'm wrong I'm going to sound like a loony!

Are we looking at a hybrid energy motor/storage/gathering unit? The dynamo aspect being the link back to Mr Royce?

Blimey.
Spot on. Yes the bayonet light bulb fitting and the picture is of an i8 engine at Geneva.
The belt drive to the water cooled motor/generator on the engine. There is also an electric motor driving the front wheels but I am sure you know that.

All the best,
Simon
