unfortunately i didn't hear it running, guy was just parking it up when we saw it.
proper rockerbilly 50's throwback guy though, slicked back hair, jeans with white T shirt, winklepickers, leather jacket with "rockers" across the back.

This one was at an event near me a few years back.
The other speaks for itself.

Beautiful Vincent Keith, nice Norvin too, but i have to say that my favourite of the combination bikes was a Triton.
I remember i had a large poster of some sort of speed record attempt Triton for years, and amongst all the then Superbikes of the day on the wall, it still held its own and looked marvellous!
This isn't it, but just how good looking and natural does this look?

Interesting on the Norvin that he has carried the Vincent into the Norton rolling chassis as in he has fitted the Vincent wheel spindles and other Vincent attributes.
The loverly front brake works well judging by the security bolts for the front tyre ! Most unusual.
The Triton is superb Shrew, much harder to get to look right than when fitting a twin cylinder engine. The exhaust system routing would be very tricky as well. Impressive.
Yes, always liked a well set up Triton but then Ducati early v twins came along and a 750 ss could not be beaten.

Nice find mate, thank you.
Its the only italian design they do, no problem with that at all, but xxl is the biggest they do,
It might be a tad mankini unless quite generous, but i think I'll give it a go

been on a much needed training course this week, dug deep down in my pockets for it but money well spent for my eyes
details here
viewtopic.php?f=34&p=17824#p17824
this is the place...classes are smaller now though, just 4 to a group so that everyone gets a workspace to themselves
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8XH_YG9aMdU
they also do architectural stuff too......remember the copper petals at the Olympic opening ceremony? they did them.

made this panel which I guess could be a vintage mudguard? more about getting the techniques right
start off with a large flat panel the hammer ten bells out of it, all in a controlled methodical manner of course!
section then is cut in half and the 2 adjoining edges were cut by hand to get consistent edge along the whole length to allow the TiG welding to be done. as I found out, even a tiny gap allows the weld to fall through. butt welding 1mm mild steel is far from easy
the seam is welded without using any welding rods, just the 2 halves of the 1mm material are blended together with the TiG which leaves the bare minimum of sanding, ready for paint really...
the underside is pretty much the same..
the vintage stuff have a different edge flange, not a levelled off section to gain strength to a wing edge but a much different way of doing it.
a 3/8" flange is put into the piece then a 1/8" zinc coated steel bar is clamped into the corner of the flange then hammered over to trap the wire and create a strong edge to the wing.
all of the above I did with noting more than a selection of hammers and dollies plus a few specialist stuff like wheeling machine and the TiG of course.
couldn't have even contemplated even dreaming of making such a thing without the expert tuition at contour academy

Very impressive. Love the idea of TIG welding with no filler rod, less pigeon-poo to grind away.
What's next? All-steel Alfasud fat arches perhaps?

Wing rail and bulkhead repair panels, plus windscreen corners.
Kev, you are a born natural. That looks better than some of the stuff our "pros" turn out.
I am not just saying that. I mean it.
Top work.

cheers guys.
funny you should say about the windscreen corners Keith.
took the one new corner in today to ask Bruce what he thought of it, best way to replicate it and all that.
The whole panel he reckoned he could hand form in one go but the part going under the wing corner would be tricky as the folds would make for a lot of shrinkage, probably do it with a few cuts he said then TiG them up.
After studying it and pointing out that really only what would be needed would be the 'screen aperture and the flattish surface with just a little tuck to enable it to be welded down between the wing corner and bonnet shut space it looks like it could be made fairly simply.
Gonna have a go anyway.
Bought a TiG welder from Contour, same ones as we've been using, so I can have some practice
We also did a little Aluminium TiG welding this afternoon too, just a trial run. Bruce said we may find it easier as you can see the pool of weld better.
This is how it comes out butt welding 2 flat sections together, again no filler rod. This is how it comes out, no grinding, just a quick pass through the wheeling machine.
Just for a final exercise and to se how annealing works we made a simple bowl from a flat round piece of Aluminium, quite nice to beat dents into it then knock them all out again
Can see why they left that for the last bit, as part of the course end they gave out a few goodies along with the natty bowl stand that they have laser cut with their logo on
Kind words Keith and very much appreciated mate, but their are guys out there with far greater skills than me. Picking up a little of their tips and skills is great experience though.

Great Work! This looks a great course, good on you. It's a skill I wish I had, very tempted but as most things I think I'd need to be fabricating something on a regular basis to be able to retain and improve those skills.
