Just one more example which is different.
S3, 1.2ti gearbox, early discs. It has a spacer ring and a thin spidery spacer instead of the wide spidery spacer.

Pretty much everything has been said, but to add to the confirmation, I used :

Big spacer with early 4 lug / stud disc

Smaller spacer with later 6 hole solid disc

The gearbox made no difference to the above, it's the disc - solid or not solid.

And finally I used a small spacer when converting to outboard discs and using a 33 driveshaft.

i have a dozen or so used shafts in my unit, one day i'll get around to inspecting them to find out the differences.
said i'd have a look when i got a minute....finally remembered tonight whilst sorting one for junior ;)

rest of what's left will be going shrews way so if anyone needs one then he's your man
