is your early talibox unit one of the solid mounts or still bushed?
still has the rubber bushes on the gearbox mate.
the very early ones had an alloy tail which tom assures me used transmit a huge amount of road noise into the car :D

The one i had on my previous '76 ti was full of sand, a dealer mod from the time i think to dampen noise.

can't believe another week has gone by and i've done bugger all again

must pull my finger out :?

finished off building the gearbox up today at least. remembered to put fresh oil in it, tom always reminds me after doing 'boxes for me, wouldn't want to contemplate forgetting!!

tail shaft refitted, bushes and sleeves cleaned and greased, gearchange lovely and smooth now 8-)

got the calipers bolted on, wish i'd have thought about it and painted them but nothing suitable to hand, oh well.
brake pipes made up and fitted, cable on etc.
ready for fitting back in now.

also fitted a new clutch kit and genuine alfa clutch slave to the engine ready for the install. hopefully fairly soon

strange day.

started off getting the engien & 'box mounted together once the motor was dug out of the shed.
all up in place, just about enough room for the crane without having to take the bonnet off or use my trolley jack adapter to lift it.
visit from john, stop for dinner.

then kind of stalled.

achieved bugger all this afternoon, faced with the wiring which i've been putting off for about a year..... :D

progress steadily moving along.

front suspension now refitted

new brake discs & pads on.

bit of hassle with the driveshafts, needed to use a spacer which made it tricky to line everything up with the discs and all

sorted out a fair amount of the wiring, will make sure everything is where it should be and working then pull the loom out to tidy it up properly.

rob gave the dash a good clean and polish, years of dust and grime from being stored cam away to reveal a good dash, relief!

just waiting for the flexi hoses to arrive then i can get some fluid into the brakes and clutch, and the new bearings for the rear discs...

steady, but feels like a hurdle has been jumped at last

Not too far away from first fire up?

Looking good, it's good to take a bit of time to savour the job, nothing worse than having a go at it if you are not quite in the mood.

Just got my shopping list of bits for the GTV engine Cambelt, water pump and variator change and service priced - £650! then there's the spark plugs too! Better bite the bullet and get it ordered so I can start some tinkering...

Keep up the good work - Ian

another fantastic day.
nothing at all achieved with relation to doing stuff to the sud, but a trip to aladins cave with john found some of the parts i'd been missing.

first good find, the other half of the lower front spoiler. brilliant, was really worried about trying to find another one. will need a couple of repairs but is more than good enough to use 8-)

next we searched through a pile of glass, found a few likely candidates for a screen but all were ruled out as being for other models. finally about the last one we checked was the holy grail.
a good screen covered in dust and dirt which thankfully when cleaned revealed no chips or cracks,.
best of all though it had the rare seal that was fitted between'76 & '78 according to justsud john's recent list ;)

""Up to 1976 were bonded screens, '76 to '78 they had a rubber seal with a stainless steel trim insert, and '78 onwards had a plain rubber seal. The screens with the stainless trim were slightly smaller ( 6mm I think ) than the plain rubber seal screens. Also, some cars had tinted glass, probably ti' s, but not sure.
Cheers, John.""

i didn't really fancy bonding a screen in as it's so very messy.
didn't also want to use an S3 seal but thought the rubber seal with chrome trim would never be found seeing as it was only used for a couple of years.

haven't got the insert but it's available from woolies for £2-50 a metre. bargain!!

http://www.woolies-trim.co.uk/p-1763-ch ... nsert.aspx

we also found a dashboard undertray which again needs robs cleaning powers. it also has a natty little pocket underneath for keeping your service book etc, nice touch :D

stainless door opening plates were another good find, will keep the carpet pinned down nice and brightly.

also found the missing drivers door glasses, in clear glass not tinted. so other than the rear screen i'm sorted now, but think rich will come to my rescue on that ;)

last little gem was on the underside of a bonnet, a lovely sticker that actually peeled off in one piece 8-)

couple of hours well spent, finished off with fixing johns bird strike on his 147

Sounds like a good day :)
These front screens are a bit of a grey area, my car registered may 1976 had a bonded in screen (well with no-nails and silicon by someone in the past  ) whether it had this originally or the type you have found today I am unsure, these cars are so old now with parts scarce for so long now anything is possible. I guess mine will end up with either of the first 2 types and I would be happy.

the screen seal thing has been troubling me mate, you're bang on though, finding what is/was the correct thing now is tricky to say the least.
i'd be happy bonding it in for the looks of the chrome surround, which i don't have, but the mess puts me off.
using an S3 seal was considered but i wanted a bit of shiny stuff to match the rest of the outer trim.
this with the insert will do nicely for me, and easier to change the screen in the future if needed for damage etc.

john is 100% sure this screen did come from an S1 car, he has an encyclopedic knowledge of all the cars he has broken over the last 40 or so years, and remembers it coming out of an S1 sud ti.
doesn't mean though that at some point that car didn't have a screen change back in the day and went from a bonded in screen to this "new" style of seal.
have heard it said that the S2 cars were the first non-bonded ones........but i'm happy with what we've got ;)

Kev

You got me thinking on the windscreens, my 78 S1 5M had a chrome surround - see attached, I never had to change the screen so am not aware if it was bonded or not, however, the chrome trim is quite different to what I had on the S2.

cheers
