Love the Piper GT, fantastic little cars. And as for the GTR sports-racer, wow. I bought a copy of "Le Ronde Infernale" (a Castrol film documentary about the 1969 Le Mans 24 hour race) just because there is some footage of the GTR in the pits. Unfortunately they couldn't qualify the car so it never raced at Le Sarthe... :(

Hmm - maybe #1 is a DB6 after all...

#2 is interesting, it is clearly forced induction and has a crossflow head, but doesn't the valve cover look like a Mini???

I’m going with DB6 as well

#2 is defo some kind of heavily modified A series. Possibly in a mini. Or Maybe a Mini based special

Does look like a Mini shell too at the bulkhead.
Billet head too, induction at the front, turbo at the back , someone's been spending..

You and Lauren are both correct. 175bhp and only 500kg.

Is that a Mini Minus? They are so cool - full fibreglass monocoque, deseamed with a 4" body chop to lower the frontal area without having to get new glass made (like the Speedwell cars). Only the donor doors are retained.

Mini Mambas too, I love it 8-)

Was owned by a young guy Lauren. He said the billet head was a few bob and the front subframe is half the weight of the original. Said he could go further but small gains will now cost £'s. I took the pic because the layout was so neat and tidy, especially with the smoothed out bulkhead where larger carb/carbs would require a cut-out.

Fibreglass monocoque so it's got to be a Lotus or Rochdale by the shape... Changed my mind, Rochdale Olympic? Doesn't look like the most sensible way to roll a delicate fibreglass structure to me.

BTW I loved the Gilburn Invader higher up the page, always fancied one of those :)

Yes a Rochdale Olympic.....but a Phase 1 with the aerodynamic underside.
The Phase 2 I'm working on was opened up underneath to allow engine/gearbox/prop/axle to be dropped out.

The Phase 1 is therefore stiffer, and handles better.....not bad for an early 60's design.
