Re: The Puzzle Post!
Position of a cam pulley cover on thst Magnum makes me think it's a canted engine like an Audi 5 pot , but more likely to be the 2.2 lotus/vauxhall twin-cam lump?

Re: The Puzzle Post!
Lou beat me on the Lotus, well done Harry on the NSX and I have no idea on the engine Tony.
I have lost it guys.

Re: The Puzzle Post!
Spoke to the guy for ages, he bought the Magnum as a donor but ended up fitting a 1.7 diesel with a Saab 9-3 turbo and Mini intercooler, really was a beautiful installation considering it had to be turned 90 degrees. 0-70 all torque then runs out of legs due to diff.
Re: The Puzzle Post!
Nice one. I saw an Astra at my local a few years ago and he had done the Saab twin turbo head swap. Looked good under the bonnet.

						Re: The Puzzle Post!
Looks like I was late to the party again, but I got the Magnum (obviously, ex-Firenza owner) and Fiat 128 (early one, not the 3P), 308 GT4, Lotus etc.
Not many people sticking with the old Vauxhall slant-4 these days

I suppose it is down to a lack of performance tuning goodies. Not like a Mk2 Escort, where you can get absolutely anything. But it would still be nice to see a few cooking Vauxhall engines now and again.
My old Droop Snoot hasn't seen the light of day for several years now. The current owner found it a bit too lairy for road use. 2.3 litre Blydenstein big valve head, GT4X rally cam, experimental works intake manifold (short runners), twin 48mm Dellortos, tubular exhaust manifold and 3" exhaust. Made 135 bhp at the wheels, so perhaps 160 bhp at the flywheel...
Amazingly, I found a picture of it on the Internet...

The ignition coil is from my 1978 donor Alfasud Ti

Re: The Puzzle Post!
Here you go Lauren, if you like the Vauxhall stuff.
This was at Cadwell last weekend, a genuine example of the touring car world, some fantastic detail on it. I kind of got in the way having a nose as they were prepping for the 2nd race, but who wouldn't want 300bhp with the sequential box (extremely quick changes) and to die for roadholding.
The engine is set so far back and low down that the o/S driveshaft runs in front of the engine, around head gasket height! You'll notice the diff, gold coloured casing, under the reservoir next to the remote ohlins damper

Re: The Puzzle Post!
It's amazing what they did with the engine position to shift the mass down and back. Still a transverse 4-cylinder though, not like DTM (V8 RWD Opel Astra anyone?).
Still prefer the old skool Tricentrol super-saloons, like Big Bertha, Baby Bertha and Mega Bertha... Silhouette racing

Re: The Puzzle Post!
Tony. being pedantic. Was it a Montego because it’s got Maestro front lights and grille !
Looks like someone’s made a Montaestro.

Does nobody recognise a Standard Flying 9 when they see one. My father had one when I was born.
