Apologies for Absence

Post by PETROLHEAD »

As the title suggests, i apologise for my absence of late, but i'm back very temporarily on a borrowed laptop after my regular machine has decided to go tits up on me in a rather expensive way :?

I'm afraid tooling and supplies come first, so please forgive me as i'm busy repairing and building, and the current set up means very patchy online time.

I'll see what Santa brings but i doubt he can replace what used to be a superb Samsung lappy.

If anyone is any good with these things please feel free to shout up or get in touch with any advice you can offer, self diagnosis is a short on the motherboard, but what do i know :?: :?: :?:

All the best

These things are often terminal, but you never know - my friends laptop started acting all weird, some of the keys stopped working. Turns out his fat cat had a habit of curling up on top of the keyboard and broke it. £7.50 factory replacement off ebay and it was good as new, but said friend now has strict instructions not to leave the laptop open :D

Good luck with the diagnostics/repair/replacement. We'll try and keep the place tidy for you!

Thank you.

I think i've identified the issue, as the charge port on the motherboard itself.

19v on the incoming plug, barely above 2v on the internal soldered connections, and continuity testing proved dubious readings across the live input path too although my fingers, thumbs and test leads are a tad large for such delicate circuitry :D

and i'm not even contemplating the soldering!

a hot knife and oxy acetylene will suffice won't it?

Are you sure you cannot hammer an 8mm socket on it?
