it does seem to end up getting overspray on it lauren....guess i should really clean it off every time i use the box, but i never do

one of these days it'll get so covered it either won't be readable or won't work

day off work today, un-planned as had an extra day to get in before xmas so nothing really scheduled.

thought i'd try and do the slam panel repairs seeing as the weather was pretty mild.
doing it on the driveway though brings issues with overspray and the paint doing a 90deg turn before it hits the panel so thought i'd try a bit of extreme oven painting

took the sud out, turned it round and poked the nose under the frame. this allowed the front end to be masked out and leave me in the relative breeze free workspace

both sides of the slam panel had been damaged when the bonnet was fitted, bolt heads had dented the panel as the hinges should have been the flush welded type, not the bolted on ones.

filled the dents then primed

basecoat & lacquer done

couldn't have possibly have doen it within the extreme oven, as seen in garden sheds in cardboard box from

a tip for if you don't want to leave a masking line but can't get behind an area is to leave 5mm or so of the masking tape peeled over, don't press it all down. this leaves a soft trap that when sprayed leaves a soft edge without giving the game away

sorted out a few more bits under the bonnet too.

heater box top fitted

brake lines clipped into place

built up the refurbished hand-brake lever and fitted that

remarkably i now have a sud that will hold on my driveway with it's own hand-brake! never had that before

i'll refit the bonnet next week once the paint has had a good chance to harden off fully, not like i'll have much time over the next few days anyway i've modified the hinges and using different bolts to ensure that the same dents aren't repeated


all in all chuffed with the days work considering i'd not planned to do anything

looking good kev i seem to remember you saying it has a windscreen surround from a hill avenger? my blue one has the same one and to be honest theyr not a good seal, it leaks quite badly in the driving rain. Mind you iv not bothered to try and seal mine in anyway as am frightened of any water getting trapped in there behind the rubber!! The way it is now it drys out really quickly..

Sorry guys,
I mentioned a chap talking to me at an Autoitalia meet. He told me that the early bonded screens, if replaced, were sometimes put in using an Avenger rubber. How true it was I do not know but he claimed to work in the day at a dealer It also enabled the fitting of a chrome trim.

could well be true mate, can't recall hearing it but may well be true as a seal is a seal.

hoping mine doesn't take on the proportions of a sieve........

The avenger windscreen seal is correct. think mk1 cortina can be used aswell. I was told by the owner of Templar windscreens. This is the guy who started autoglass and then flogged it, got bored and started a new firm. He new a lot about what fitted what.

Kev - you may not have done the welding but you most certainly have put your mark on this rebuild by virtue of your attention to detail and perseverance to get things right. Take the credit for the excellent job you are doing!.

had an hour or 2 to spre this afternoon, family didn't fancy a ride out to skeggy....who am i to argue

fitted the painted & modified bonnet hinges then popped it back onto the car. needed a little bit of fettling to the drivers side hinge to get the edge gaps right enough but got there in the end.
you can see from the closed bonnet pic how close the hinge plate sits to the front upper panel which with ordinary bolts were fouling the panel, denting it even. with the new tapered cap screws which with the tapered seats cut into the hinges fitted it all now sits flush, just enough clearance

meant i could finally fit the grille that's been in the house for safekeeping after i painted it weeks ago

was gonna have a look in my box of seals mate, in fact i measured it up....then forgot to look when i got in the shed

most likely will go to woolies to get some new door seals so will get some new bits then, or thinking about it i'll get some off the trimmers when he does the roof lining. he's bound to have some?

took ages to ensure the neccesary clearance mate, amazing how far down the bonnet lip comes isn't it!
leaves a hell of a gap when the bonnet's down though.
first fit i could see it was gonna foul, prayed i hadn't chipped the paint on the bonnet lip.

fitted the front grille badge properly now, bought some plastic sleeves that took out the wear in the retaining pins. of course double sided tape would have held it there but as we know, you need to take the badge out to get to a grille retaining screw..

other little job was to clean up the rear light reflectors that rich kindly gave me a while back, cheers again mate
i'm sticking these in place with 3M double sided tape rather than with the retaining pegs (ok, that'd be tricky as they've broken off... ) as it will keep any moisture from entering the car there.

not a great deal else planned now, details really.
want to get it as near as possible done before it goes off to have the roof lining made which will hopefully be late feb, fingers crossed

Noticed the new "thingy", what's with the NZ 27 ? Is it a bike number?
My reflector pegs were dodgy, just a thought, but I stuck mine with clear silicon as they are quite translucent. It also helps keep the wet out.
Did anything come of the multiple headlining order, or is it still in the pipeline?

just confirmed what i already know. a guy who says it like it is, doesn't get into the PR BS that other self proclaimed "stars" do
i like him.

the roof lining thing seemed to fizzle out, also mine having the webasto roof kind of put me aside from the group buy.
a local trimmers who have done great work are doing the roof lining late feb/early march. not only the roof lining but they are taking the webasto apart and doing the lining to that in the same new material so it matches for colour etc. they are also going to re-cover the outer black vinyl top too.
not cheap but should be worth it

Regarding the group buy for head linings: I have it on my to-do list to contact Alfaholics after 5th Jan when everyone should be back at work.
Will report back to interested parties as soon as I have spoken with Alfaholics.
Sorry the enquiry did not get made before Xmas but I was away in Portugal for three weeks. I think I am right in saying that there are 3 interested parties including myself now if Kev is having one made elsewhere.

did have some concerns about whether me having the full width folding webasto roof would be taken into account so took the plunge when a professional became an option
for anyone that has an S1 sud though the one on kieths car loks awesome
